Do you know the difference between marketing and sales? Let’s think about this question for a moment. Without marketing, you would not have prospects or leads to follow up with, but yet without a good sales technique and strategy, your closing rate may depress you. Marketing and sales should work simultaneously, but in most companies, they are departments that don’t even speak to each other….
Your marketing should consist of strategies that you can measure your reach and work to persuade your prospects that you are the company for them. It’s the message that prepares the prospect for the sale. It could consist of advertising, Public Relation, , Social media..etc
We can also said that marketing is how to attract a customers to your services ,products..
But Sales is how to get a leads and potentials from this customers that you collected from marketing before..
Marketing is a longer term concept than sales and relates to forward looking strategies to understand customer needs.
Marketing includes consumer research, in order to identify the needs of the customers; product development which aims to design a product to meet those needs; and advertising the products to raise awareness, build the brand and to generate interest in the product. All of this eventually leads to a position where sales can happen. Sales is the actual selling of the product. The sales team has to directly interact with the customer and persuade them to buy the product.
It can be said that marketing is the reason that a person goes to a particular store, whereas sales is the reason that the person buys a product from that particular store. For example: I went to Adidas to get a athletic shoe(Marketing). The sales person convinced me to buy this shoe from their new line (Sales).
